I like to think of myself as a relatively artsy person. I was never the best at drawing in elementary school, but I always loved it, and I wanted to be an animator when I was younger. As I grew older and realized that my slightly misshapen drawings of the Powerpuff Girls wouldn't make the cut, I started finding other arts and crafts. I've since found a passion for paper arts, and I took up origami, bookbinding, paper model making, scrapbooking and cardmaking. Just last semester, I've found another art (I guess it's called paper sculpture or paper design or something like that), and I'm really enjoying it (although I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like).
Drawing inspiration from many artists, including Jackie Huang and Brittney Lee, I've grown a desire to create my own types of paper sculptures. I took a design class in the fall of 2012, and while we worked mostly with gouache, we were able to work with our preferred medium of choice for one of our last projects.
My designs so far have been relatively simple. I've also done a Hogwarts crest (the Ravenclaw feathers were NOT fun to cut out with my craft knife), and I'm hoping to create more when I can, hopefully this summer if I can find the time!
